Schema Compare Project

Schema Compare projects use the shared New/Edit Project editor to compare a source database with a target database and then open the compare output in a separate results tab.

Current workflow

  1. Select Schema Compare as the project type. This is often the default project type, but it can be changed in System Preferences.
  2. Complete the source and target details on the Connection tab.
  3. Continue through the Schema Compare-specific tabs that matter for the project: Map & Filter, Schema Filter, Project Options, and On Completion.
  4. Optionally set the project name, project group, and the Play Sound notification mode.
  5. Choose Run to save the project and open the compare in a separate results tab, or choose Save if you want to keep the project for later.

Connection details

Schema Compare projects require both a source and a target connection. For the database-specific connection forms, see New/Edit Project - SQL Server, New/Edit Project - MySQL, and New/Edit Project - Oracle. The shared editor behavior is covered in New/Edit Project Overview.

Connection utilities

  • Copy copies the current source connection details to the target side.
  • Swap exchanges the current source and target connection details.
  • Test runs a connection test for the selected side and updates the current connection result.

Schema Compare-specific tabs

  • Map & Filter controls source and target object mapping or filtering.
  • Schema Filter applies schema filtering after the connection details are finalized.
  • Project Options contains compare and load options for the project.
  • On Completion defines post-run actions such as displaying, saving, or executing a synchronize script, generating reports, emailing output, saving a snapshot, running another project, closing the compare tab, or closing SQL Delta.

Play Sound

The current project header still includes a Play Sound selector for long-running work. The available choices are No Sound, All Processed, After Compare, After Script Load, and After Script Run.

Running and saving

Running a Schema Compare project automatically saves the current project first and then opens the compare output in a new tab. Saving without running leaves the project ready to be reopened later from the Project Manager. If automatic save on tab close is enabled in System Preferences, closing the edit tab can also save the project automatically.

The screenshots on this page still reflect an older Schema Compare project layout and should be treated as placeholders until current Version 7 replacements are captured.
