What's New - SQL Delta for SQL Server
This page summarizes the most important SQL Delta for SQL Server changes called out in the Version 6 and Version 7 release notes. It intentionally leaves out routine bug-fix-only entries.
Version 7 highlights
- SQL Server 2025 support: added in July 2025, together with JSON field type and JSON index support.
- Schema View improvements: Schema View can now query and display multiple data sets, supports Alt+- navigation, and in 2026 gained a Virtual Editor for very large files that can be imported into the query tab.
- Project Manager and editing: Version 7 improves Project Manager performance and reliability, running-project display, edit-project display, and tab handling.
- Automation and scripting: recent releases improve command line processing, asynchronous execution of multiple projects, On Completion handling, dependency scanning, script sorting, and script execution performance.
- Display and usability: Version 7 adds theme support including dark mode, better High DPI behavior, improved data compare display, zoom formatting, keyboard fixes, and both 32-bit and 64-bit delivery.
Important late Version 6 additions
- SQL Server 2022 support: added in March 2023.
- Encryption-related compare options: late 2021 releases added decode encrypted definitions, add WITH ENCRYPTION, ignore encrypted objects, and ignore WITH ENCRYPTION during compare.
- Schema View and editor improvements: persistent tabs, data search and sorting, better keyboard shortcuts, and improved handling of very large displays were added in Version 6 before the Version 7 UI refresh.
- Data compare and safety improvements: release notes repeatedly improve recreate-table scripting, column mapping, snapshot filters, data compare reporting, and detailed display behavior.
- Authentication and connectivity: Active Directory Authentication was added in January 2021, and several releases improved Azure and driver handling.
- SQL Server 2019 support: added in December 2019 and refined in later Version 6 releases.
